   About GROWN AT HOME

Photobucket

GROWN AT HOME blend a dynamic, energetic and unrivalled live performance with the cutting edge of punk, hardcore and ska. Amongst the flying brass and bouncing vocalists lie contagious melodies so infectious you'll be humming them for weeks.

GROWN AT HOME are a 6 piece ska punk band that encompass every part of what is - ska punk with dancey, rocking high energy ska core !
Grown at Home exploded onto the UK punk scene in 2002 as an 8 piece ska band playing gigs up and down the country and receiving awesome responses. After line up changes through the years and having many different influences help to refine their sound they now have the combination of musicians to fully excell. In 2004 they entered the studio with producer Iain Wetherell (Capdown, Lightyear) to record their first self-titled EP, now deleted and available exclusively from the iTunes Music Store. By 2006 the band released their debut album, 'Assemble', recorded at Street Level Studios, Cardiff (The Crimea, Adequate Seven), and in 2007 embarked on their first European tour with the Voodoo Glow Skulls spanning over 30 dates on foreign soil.

Over their short years GROWN AT HOME have played with Jimmy Eat World, Motion City Soundtrack, MXPX, Lagwagon, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Rx Bandits, Lightyear, Sonic Boom Six, Adequate 7, MU330, The King Blues, Never Heard of It, the Aquabats, and Big D & The Kids Table to name but a few! Since then they've headlined the Ska Trek - The Next Generation tour, and joined Sonic Boom Six on their Arcade Perfect album release tour.
After the departure of longtime vocalist Nick Phillips, the band has seen a line up reshuffle, which involved recruiting new muscians. They've since written new material and developed old tracks. Currently writing and recording for their new record, which is planned to be released April/May 2009. Catch them at a venue near you very soon!

"an awesome and eclectic brand of ska based anthems" - Big Cheese

"a fun loving, high energy, Lightyear-esque vibe" - Do The Dog

"get ready to dance until your feet bleed!" - KillTheNoise.net

Tonight there's almost a sense that Grown At Home are going through the motions. This isn't so much a gripe at the band as it is an observation on how comfortable the band has become with its sound. The six-piece has clearly honed its sound, and is well versed in the set they play tonight. As ever, 'Three Strikes' and 'Don't Be a Menace' sound superb, and even manage to encourage a few crowd members to skank away, but you can't help but feel that a few new additions to the set will ignite the band once again.
- Alex Hambleton for http://www.dtamusic.co.uk

Local heroes Grown at Home having already toured with the late Adequate Seven, their experience with big crowds pays off and boy do the know how to work this one. 'Welcome to Ska Trek!' grins singer Nick as they fire off a memorable set, their sound somewhere between sun-soaked Californian ska melodies and the grittier style of Big d and the Kids Table. Bringing it all to a close with infectious 'Kick in the Beer Can', the whole band seems to be enjoying every second. Whether its brass members Sam or Willis giving it some welly or Paul aka 'Cookie' on guitar going...well...fucking mental, Grown at Home give ska-punk a good name and leave us feeling how we should do after a gig; sweaty, happy and like we had a damn good time. Hell yes.
-Sarah Cakebread. Big Cheese Magazine

Tonight's headliners have one thing on their mind: having fun. From the moment Grown At Home grace the stage, a smile adorns this six faced behemoth. The crowd banter is entertaining ("You want to hear a story? No?") and the ska punk is high quality. Favourites 'Three Strikes' and 'Kick in the Beer Can' practically have the Underworld itself jumping. The audience emulates the band with equally as big smiles and some manic dancing. With its chorus of "I want to go home", closer 'Don't Be a Menace…' could be deemed to contradict the feelings of everybody in the room.
- SkaCommunity.co.uk

"A combination of a powerful brass section, driving riffs, furious percussion and a strong vocal trio, these were the hallmarks of their well constructed sound."

"Uniquely accessible and genuinely fun, it would take a very cold and cynical person, irrespective of musical tastes, not to get swept away by their infectious, up-tempo sound - However the real key to their success is the quality of their material – witty, well-written and expertly arranged their tracks are literally packed with hooks and unfold at a tremendous pace, delivered with really seen levels of showmanship and technical ability."

Thank you for adding "Grapes from Thornbushes"! There is an excerpt of Chapter 1 in the blog on our page which will hopefully give you an idea about the book.

It's not easy to write about the unsigned rock scene, but this book hopefully captures the essence of what goes on - the love, the hatred, the competition, the passion, the disappointments, the dilemmas...

Your comments, observations, and feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.
